Our intention from the opening of Simple Abundance Yoga was to reach out within
our community not only through offering classes and workshops at our studio,
but also by donating time, service, and money toward area charities and groups
in need. This outreach also includes presenting the health benefits to
interested support groups as well as schools, churches, and corporate
environments.
We have also been blessed to sponsor numerous charities since SAY's opening in
2006 and we are truly thankful for such generous students. Some of these
charities are listed below so that you can see how you have helped and so that
we may continue to bring attention to them through the included web links.

June 2010:
Summer Solstice Yoga at Winged Deer Park
on Boone Lake, Johnson City, Tennesseee
On Saturday, June 19th, Wendy presented a free Summer Solstice Yoga practice at
Winged Deer Park. Wendy's playlist was awesome and the evening perfect.
A half-moon hanging in the sky and the sunset over the lake.
At the closing of the practice, in Savasana, Wendy read a beautiful reading while the
stars began to emerge from the sky.
Waves gently breaking against the shoreline while the big dipper hung directly above us!
As one yogi stated "Beautiful!"

November 2009:
Our Generous Students Support IHN & Homeless Families
During the month of October, we posted
a list at our studio of items that the
Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Johnson City indicated as the
most needed items by homeless families hosted by our local churches.
We originally placed a medium sized basket in front of Seva Bear for collecting
these donations. Within a few short days we werre overwhelmed by the generosity
of our students and it was necessary to replace the basket with a much larger
one. Before long, even that basket overflowed. By the end of the month over 60
pounds of needed items had been collected.
November 3rd, Wendy and I delivered the basket and extra bags of gifts to the
local office of the
Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Johnson City. They seemed
quite surprised and sincerely appreciative that our humble studio had collected
so many needed items. We greatly appreciate the overwhelming generosity of our
amazing students who support us and our community.
Thank you!

Interfaith Hospitality Network
A Community Response for Homeless Families
Simple
Abundance Yoga sponsors the
Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Johnson City through the
introduction of Seva Bear. Seva Yoga is the act of service to the community and
is essential to our outreach within the community.
Beginning in October, Simple Abundance Yoga will start collecting items for the
Interfaith Hospitality Network. The local chapter has provided us with a list of
the
Most Needed Items for the Month of November, 2009.
Seva Bear holds a basket at our studio for donations. Once a month, we will
escort Seva Bear and the basket to the IHN home office or to one of the
host churches, so the families can meet me and give Seva Bear hugs. We will
periodically post updates and photos of Seva Bear's visits.

In the fall of 2008, Wendy was invited to teach classes at Piney Flats United Methodist Church in Piney Flats,
Tennessee. The pastor and the wonderful people at PFUMC made Wendy and I
feel incredibly welcome. As a gesture of appreciation for being able to share
yoga in this beautiful space, 10% of the proceeds of yoga classes at PFUMC are
donated to the church. Classes at PFUMC continue to date. [

By
request of numerous students who asked for a yoga practice that they could
carry with them on vacation, business trips, etc., Wendy and I collaborated on
a 1-hour yoga CD practice which we released in early 2009. The CD is named
Simple Flow Yoga. We were so impressed with the commitment and
difference that PFUMC was making to local families in need that we decided to
donate 10% of the proceeds from our CD to the local chapter of the
Interfaith Hospitality Network.

November, 2007 : We would like to thank everyone for their generous
support of the
Yoga for Food project that Simple Abundance Yoga and its students
sponsored during the month of November. New students were offered a free class
in exchange for food donations. In addition to the 79 pounds of food that we
carried to the
Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee, donated proceeds from
classes and direct contributions from students totalled $150. They were very
appreciative of the food and monetary contributions!
Note: We are in the process of updating the web site with events sponsored over
the past few months.
Through the generous support of our students we have been able to sponsor the
adoption of dozens of dogs and cats at the local animal shelter. Please visit
the JC/Washington County Animal Shelter and adopt a dog or
cat in need of a caring home!
April, 2007 : Northeast Tennessee Parkinson’s Support Group
During the month of April, we donated 100% of the proceeds from our April 16th Meditation
Class and our April 21st Community Flow classes. Also, any cash
donations from our donation vase were contributed as well.
We would like to thank Judy Hensley for the information display that she
brought to our studio for all of us to learn more about Parkinson's. It has
been our privilege to provide programs and classes for this inspiring group of
people over the past year.
March, 2007 : Anna’s Closet
Anna's Closet was started in 2000 after the sudden death of Anna Love, a very
special young girl. In her memory, counselors at Indian Trail Middle School
decided to open Anna’s Closet to provide new and nearly new clothing to
students who were unable to purchase stylish clothing and shoes.
Throughout the month, SAY students generously brought in bags, bags, and more
bags of clothes. Also, 100% of the proceeds from our four Beginner Meditation
classes were donated to Anna’s Closet -- allowing them to purchase additional
items that children may need. This raised an additional $105.
American Friends Service Committee
On March 19th we held a special Peace Meditation. This was a donation based
class which raised $30 for the American Friends Service Committee. AFSC's work
is based on the Quaker belief in the worth of every person and faith in the
power of love to overcome violence and injustice.
February, 2007 : Abel Tyson
An SAY student brought the need of the Tyson Family to our attention and asked
for our help. Abel is an 18-Month old suffering from Stage 3 Neuroblastoma.
100% of the proceeds from our Super Bowl Yoga (Sunday, February 4th) and our
Community Flow Yoga (February 10th) were donated to this family, along with the
cash donations from our donation vase.
January, 2007 : JC/Washington County Animal Shelter
Thanks to monetary donations, as well as the support of several classes during
the month of February that we contributed 100% of the proceeds. We were not
only able to cover Fletch's heartworm treatment of $400, we were also able to
sponsor the adoption of 8 more animals at the shelter ($150). Additionally, we
carried two loads of several hundred pounds of supplies and food to the
shelter.
About Fletch
December, 2006 : Our amazing students, teachers, and the community.
2006 has been an amazing year for Wendy and I. We opened Simple Abundance Yoga
only five months ago and ended the year with over 200 amazing students. We have
found our students and teachers to be some of the most generous people --
freely supporting our sponsered charities each month.
With this in mind, our December focus was our gratefulness for our students,
teachers, and the community! Therefore, throughout the month there were special
treats. By far, the clear winner appeared to be the hot chocolate!
We cannot begin to express our appreciation for your support of SAY and our
mission for the community -- Thank You!
November, 2006 :
Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee.
We were overwhelmed by two large boxes that over-filled with the abundance of
non-perishable foods brought by our students and instructors during the month
of November. 100% of the proceeds from the November 10th Blacklight Teen Yoga
and November 25th Community Flow Yoga classes, and cash donations were
contributed as well.
Simple Abundance Yoga is a proud sponsor of the 2006 Yoga for Food project.
October, 2006 :
Safe Passage Women's Shelter
100% of the proceeds from our October 14th Community Flow class and October
20th Freedom Yoga class, and cash donations were contributed as well.
August-September, 2006 :
Boys-to-Men/Children of Promise
All donatations, plus 100% of the proceeds from Freedom Yoga, Yoga for Peace
for the month of September and Community Flow classes on August 26th and
September 9th.
Update: We were delighted to hear from Lisa Tipton of the Children of Promise
program that the donated funds allowed children to attend programs at Trinity Arts Center of Johnson City,
Tennessee.
